What is our mission?
Grace Community Church is committed to the Great Commission.
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit… Matthew 28:18–19 (ESV)
• Bring In – To bring the people of our community into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the witness of the church in the power of the Holy Spirit.
• Build Up – To build up and equip those who have trusted Christ into mature Christians who reflect their Savior in word and lifestyle.
• Branch Out – To branch out its members to minister to one another and to reach out to the world starting with our own community.
Who are we?
As the church we are called to make disciples of all nations. Jesus told the apostles to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Our Jerusalem is Iowa City, which is home to the University of Iowa. Each year thousands of students from all over the world attend the UI to prepare themselves for careers. In years past Grace Community Church supported various parachurch ministries to further the gospel and disciple making on campus. While we support and value the role the parachurch has to play in making disciples, we believe this is our responsibility as a local church. We consider the UI and the downtown Iowa City area as a key strategic outpost for making disciples who will be salt and light to the communities God sends them to. It is for this reason that Grace Community Church has planted a church campus downtown. The downtown campus is an extension of Grace Community Church in North Liberty.
How can you help?
The Needs – Staffing and Budget
The Downtown Church’s expenses include rent, staffing, events, and other ministry needs. In most cases it is reasonable to expect a new church plant to financially support itself within one to two years. In the case of a campus church with a larger percentage of undergraduate and graduate students, we do not expect the Downtown Church to be self-sustaining. Therefore Grace Community Church plans to include the downtown work as a major financial investment for the kingdom and the advancement of the gospel for years to come.
If you have a heart to see the UI and downtown area impacted for the gospel, would you consider partnering with us to help make disciples in this strategic location? Through your prayer and financial support, together we prayerfully expect to see God do great things through the Downtown Church. 100% of your donation will go towards the Downtown Church and the work of making disciples in that location.
